From 1 April, the Trust Development Authority will be part of NHS Improvement.
The first function to be taken on by the NHS Trust Development Authority (NHS TDA) is the appointment of chairs and non-executive directors of NHS trusts and NHS Charities.
Responsibility for these appointments transferred to the NHS TDA on 1 October 2012. They were previously made by the Appointments Commission, which was abolished on 31 October 2012. A small team of staff have transferred to the NHS TDA with the function to ensure a smooth transition and that the NHS TDA is able to benefit from their knowledge and expertise as it takes forward this important work.
The NHS TDA is responsible for around 650 chair and non-executive appointments to NHS Trusts and around 60 NHS charitable trustees. The Secretary of State for Health has the power to make these appointments but has delegated this to the NHS TDA.
