<p>There is a vacancy for a Designate Non-executive Director of East &amp; North Hertfordshire NHS Trust.  In preparation for becoming an NHS Foundation Trust, East &amp; North Hertfordshire NHS Trust is seeking to appoint a Designate Non-executive Director to its board.  This is an exceptional opportunity to share your talents and expertise to make a positive difference to the lives of people in your community.</p>
<p>If the appointment is agreed by the Trust board, that individual can attend board meetings and participate in a consultant capacity, advising the board but not able to vote. </p>
<p><strong>Essential criteria</strong></p>
<p>Candidates will need to have a genuine commitment to patients, to the promotion of excellent health care services and have senior level experience in one or more of the following areas:</p>
<p>• Clinical experience gained in either a medical, nursing or allied discipline with a strong service delivery background<br />
<strong>and/or</strong><br />
• public, voluntary, community or charity sector experience; bringing experience of strategic planning, financial, risk, performance management and service development expertise</p>
<p><strong>Board level competencies</strong></p>
<p>If you are invited to interview, you will also need to demonstrate the range of competencies required to contribute effectively in this board level role, including:</p>
<p>• <strong>Patient and community focus</strong> &#8211; a high level of commitment to patients, carers and the community, and to tackling health inequalities in disadvantaged groups<br />
• <strong>Strategic direction</strong> &#8211; the ability to think and plan ahead, to develop a clear vision and enthuse others, balancing needs and constraints<br />
• <strong>Holding to account</strong> &#8211; the ability to accept accountability for board performance, and probe and challenge constructively<br />

<p><strong>Eligibility</strong> &#8211; Preference will be given to candidates who live in the catchment area, or have strong connections with the area.  We will accept applications from those with the appropriate experience living in the surrounding areas.</p>
<p><strong>Please note:</strong> Designate Non-executive Directors are appointed by the Trust board and can attend board meetings and participate in a consultant capacity, advising the board but not able to vote.  Following the Trust’s authorisation as an NHS Foundation Trust, any Designate Non-executive appointment may be recommended to the Trust’s Governors for appointment as a full Non-executive Director.</p>
<p><strong>Remuneration</strong> &#8211; £6,157 per annum.  Any designate appointed will be paid by the trust as a consultant at a level equivalent to the non-executive directors on the board.</p>
<p>In the event of East &amp; North Hertfordshire NHS Trust achieving Foundation Trust status, the level of remuneration may be reviewed (NHS Foundation Trust Non-Executive Directors typically receive £10,000 &#8211; £14,000 per annum).</p>

<p>In preparation for becoming an NHS Foundation Trust, the Trust is seeking to appoint a Designate Non-executive Director with clinical experience, who can attend board meetings and participate in a consultant capacity, advising the board but not able to vote. </p>
<p>The Trust provides a range of mental health inpatient, outpatient, community and day hospital services across Barnet, Enfield, Haringey and the wider region north of the Thames.</p>
<p><strong>Essential criteria</strong></p>
<p>Candidates will need to have a genuine commitment to patients, and an understanding of and empathy with the importance of consumer (including carer) engagement in shaping services to the promotion of excellent health care services</p>
<p>Candidates will also need to have experience at a senior level in all of the following areas:</p>
<ul>
<li>Practical experience and expertise in using consumer/patient/carer strategies to achieve large scale change</li>
<li>Governance expertise – bringing experience at board or a senior and practical level – to strategic planning, finance, risk and performance management</li>
<li>Record of achievement in bringing about fundamental change in large complex organisations in, for example, health and social care</li>
</ul>

<p>The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is the main provider of acute medical care for half a million people in Shropshire, Telford &amp; Wrekin and mid-Wales. Most of its services are provided at the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in Shrewsbury.</p>

<p><strong>Remuneration</strong> &#8211; £6,157 pa. </p>
<p>In the event of the Trust achieving Foundation Trust status, the level of remuneration may be reviewed (NHS Foundation Trust Non-Executive Directors typically receive £10,000 &#8211; £14,000 pa).</p>
<p>All remuneration is taxable under Schedule E and subject to Class 1 NI contributions but it is not pensionable.  Non-executive board members are also eligible to claim allowance for travel and subsistence costs incurred necessarily on NHS business in line with rates set centrally within the Department of Health.</p>
<p><strong>Time commitment</strong> – This is a part time role and the successful candidate will have considerable flexibility to decide how they spend their time, including some evening engagements and preparation time.  We estimate that as a minimum the role requires 2.5 days a month, although this may increase for periods during the NHS Foundation Trust application process. </p>
<p><strong>Period of appointment</strong> – The successful candidates will be appointed for up to 4 years, after which they may be considered for a further term of office, subject to the needs of the organisation and a good performance. </p>
<p>These posts are public appointments and not jobs and are therefore not subject to the provisions of employment law.</p>
